The problem

This site is a high-traffic pharmacy co-located with a boutique barbershop in Dallas–Fort Worth. The two businesses share foot traffic throughout the day: customers picking up prescriptions, and clients coming in for haircuts, often with kids in tow. That combination created a specific challenge that a generic vending setup wouldn't solve.

First, the clientele at this location skews health-conscious. A standard assortment of chips, candy, and sugary soda wasn't going to fit what these customers were actually looking for when they stopped in. A pharmacy customer thinking about their health while waiting on a prescription, or a barbershop client who cares about what they eat and drink, needed a product mix that matched that mindset rather than a one-size-fits-all vending selection.

Second, there was a gap for the youngest visitors. Kids often wait around while a parent gets a prescription filled or sits in the barber's chair for a haircut. Before Flyby Vending, there was nothing on site to keep them occupied or happy during that wait — no snack, no drink, nothing suited to them. That's a small thing on any single visit, but across a high-traffic location it adds up to a lot of restless kids and a few more reasons for parents to want to hurry out the door.

What we installed

Flyby Vending installed a Micromart placement stocked with a curated mix built around this location's actual customers. Rather than a generic assortment, the selection leans toward options that fit a health-conscious clientele, alongside choices suitable for kids who are waiting on a parent. The placement uses an AI-powered smart cooler, so both groups can grab what they want and pay in seconds with a tap, no cash or attendant required.

The installation was no-cost to the property, in line with Flyby's standard model: Flyby owns the hardware, restocks and services the unit, and handles payment processing, so the pharmacy and barbershop didn't have to take on any equipment cost or day-to-day management to offer this to their customers.

The result

According to the owner, the curated approach has paid off in a specific and measurable way: after-school hours are when the barbershop side of the business sees the most kids and parents come through, and the owner reports that after-school sales have increased over 20 percent since the Micromart placement went in. Flyby Vending has not independently verified this figure; it is based on what the owner has reported to us.

The owner also reports growing demand for additional Micromart units at the location, which suggests the curated mix is resonating with customers beyond the after-school window as well.

This case illustrates a broader point about placement: a Micromart doesn't have to be a generic assortment of snacks. Matching the product mix to who's actually walking through the door — health-conscious adults, kids waiting on a parent — can make the difference between a placement that gets ignored and one that becomes part of how customers experience the visit.
